“Because I was bitter and wanted a secret. I’d be sitting in meetings and the scab was raised and I could run my tongue over it.”

“My girlfriend had this commissioned for my 25th or 26th birthday. We had only had been dating a year or two and she contacted my friend from college to commission it. The fact that she went to all that effort when we had just started dating indicated she might be the one.
She thinks I have a lot of qualities similar to a bulldog: I need a lot of sleep. I have trouble breathing. I’m lazy.
I’ve never owned a dog.”

“The knob seemed symbolic. It’s in its fifth home — sixth if you count the dorm room. Seventh if you count the door. I don’t know want you think I stole the knob. Yes, I did . . . But I was trying to get home through the stairwell and it just came with me. It fell off. I don’t go around taking people’s knobs. That is fake news. I felt when the knob fell into my hands it was a sign that doors would open for me. They have. They have also shut. I’ve been on both sides of the door. Literally, once it fell into my hand you couldn’t open the door from one side.”

“I have had My Little Pony since I was eight years old. It was the last Christmas gift my father gave me before he passed away. This is the only one I have left of everything he’s gotten me. I’ve either donated it or had to throw it away.
My favorite is the purple one. She’s so cute.
Jaiden is my cousin. When I was younger and wouldn’t let him play with the set, he thought it would be great to get back at me by destroying the box. In the surface I’ve forgiven him for this. On the inside, No!”

“This bird has been with me for a very long time. I think it looks like a small sparrow. I was visiting Nevis from Saint Kitts and we went to a craft factory. There was a bin of broken things that weren’t being sold. I felt like I needed to rescue him. No one else knew it would be special. It was almost no money.
Once I was walking down the street with my mom—before she got really sick. I guided her around this bird that was eating something on the ground. She noted that we walked out of the way not to bother him and she said she was proud of
me for that. It made me proud of myself. I acted to protect the bird in a small way.
I saved the nose for a long time but then I lost that. I told myself I would glue it back on. Now it just looks like a seal.”

“When I’m out at a fancy restaurant and the waiter comes by with a large pepper grinder asking if I want fresh pepper, it’s nice to know that mine is bigger.”
